Caylus

Quick look by Moritz Eggert

This is a very fine game; a gamer's game if you want. The rules are very logical and there is a flow to the game that keeps everybody busy and involved, especially with the myriads of strategies involved. The abstracted graphic design is excellent, as it is really possible to understand everything that is depicted on the board quickly and without the use of text. Be prepared to play this a few times before you feel confident, this game is much less forgiving than even Puerto Rico. The only reason why this doesn't get a 10 by me is the fact that a) there is little to no theme here - you never feel a minute like you are building a medieval town, it's all about VP's and resources b) player interaction is limited to where you place your pawns. But every true gamer should feel obliged to play this game at least once, that's for sure.
