May 2005 | An excellent new offering by Ruediger Dorn, an almost perfect game of considerable decision making trees. Where should I place my influence pawns? Should I try to fulfill missions or go for the insignia? Is has the same potential for continuous replay as 'Puerto Rico' with its 'let's play again because I want to try something different' value. And it even uses very little physical space in your collection! But don't expect a strong theme here (although the selected nobles and their portraits show great historical research), this is a very abstract game that creates little historic atmosphere... The only slight problem is with the final additional VP's for insignia majority, which seems to jar with the perfect rest of the game (as it is pure luck of the draw, with no way to influence it), but it is possible to leave that rule away and just treat the insignia as simple VP's. |
